Anaphase

Is the third phase in mitosis. During Anaphase the following occurs:

1. The pairs of chromosomes begin to pull apart.

2. The chromosomes are pulled by protein fibers called microtubules.

3. The microtubules, or protein fibers, attach on the chromosome. The place where they attach is called a kinetochore.

4.  Each chromosome is pulled apart by a microtuble. the single chromosome is called a chromatid.

5.  As the chromosomes pull apart, each chromatid moves to an opposite side of the cell.

6.  At the end of Anaphase the chromosomes have been pulled apart and the chromatids are now at the opposide sides of the cell.
